Alcatel launch retail field marketing team www.isellmobile.co.uk 3 NEWS AND RUMOURS Following the meeting between the key stakeholders in the Three/O2 merger it has emerged that the supermarket is keen to become an entirely autonomous MVNO. O2 still owns 50% of Tesco Mobile which was launched as a joint venture (JV) between the two companies in 2003. Alcatel is set to launch a UK retail field marketing team this year. The manufacturer’s UK and Ireland country director William Paterson said ‘it will enable us to really be able to go into retailers, to talk about product, to talk about the proposition, what we’re about and what we’re doing with the brand as well.’ Samsung has threatened retailers and distributors over the sale of box broken European stock. The manufacturer sent letters to a number of UK retailers and distributors before Christmas, informing them that it would not honour warranties on Samsung handsets, which had been bought inside the EU and then modified for UK sale. UK MD Chris Millington said that poor experiences for older users would damage retailers market share: ‘Retailers need to wake up to it pretty quickly because people that have a bad experience are not going to renew with that retailer, they’re going to choose another one.’
